What is Mushroom Identification?

Explore mushrooms through photo suggestions, species information and a record of your finds. This Android app uses AI-assisted image recognition with information covering over 530 mushroom species, giving you a starting point for learning about fungi you notice outdoors.

Results can be wrong. Never use an app result, an edibility label or a recognition score to decide that a wild mushroom is safe to eat.

Who is Mushroom Identification for?

Use it when you want to learn about a mushroom from a photo, read species descriptions or keep track of where you found it. It suits nature walks, reviewing pictures after an outing and learning more about the variety of fungi around you.

The app is for information and learning, not a guide to safe consumption. Photo suggestions do not replace examination of the actual specimen by an experienced mushroom expert.

What does Mushroom Identification do?

🍄 Explore possible photo matches
Take a picture or select an image from another source to explore suggested matches. Review species descriptions, pictures and lookalike information, with Wikipedia links for further reading.

📖 Browse and learn
Use the field guide to explore mushroom information. Try photo-based knowledge quizzes to practise recognising names and compare what you have learned.

🗺️ Keep a record of discoveries
Save GPS locations of your finds, revisit or share them, and view discoveries on Google Maps. Finding history keeps earlier results available to review after your outing.

🔍 Understand the results
View the model's recognition score alongside a suggested match. The score reflects the image-recognition result; it is not proof that the identification is correct or the mushroom is edible.

📚 Read included information offline
Access included species descriptions and photos without an internet connection. Follow links to mushroom advisory centres when you want further guidance.

How does Mushroom Identification work?

Take or choose a mushroom photo, then review the suggested result and its supporting information. Compare the pictures and descriptions for learning, and save the find's location if you want a record of the outing.

Return to your finding history or browse the field guide to continue exploring species. Use quizzes as a learning activity, not a test of whether a mushroom is safe to consume.

Compatibility and requirements

This is an Android app. Offline access applies to the included species information and photos; external links and online map services need a connection. The app contains ads and offers in-app purchases.

⚠️ Do not eat a wild mushroom based on this app. Poisonous mushrooms can resemble edible species, and photo-based identification can confuse them. Before considering consumption, have the actual specimen checked by an experienced mushroom-identification and edibility expert. If there is any doubt, do not eat it.

Mushroom Identification brings photo suggestions, a field guide and saved discoveries together for learning about fungi—not for making eating decisions.
